Join our team! A high-end plastics manufacturing company is searching for a strong Tooling Engineer at our Whitewater, WI facility, who has experience designing and/or building plastic injection molds for internal and external customers. The ideal candidate will have five years plus experience in mold design or plastic injection mold building experience. The tooling engineer should be experienced in working cross-functionally on the manufacturing floor with other engineering disciplines to resolve molding problems and to implement process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively manages tooling-related projects from design through PPAP.
  • Leads the review and continuous improvement of Lavelle’s PM program for injection molds utilizing Maintain X software.
  • Owns tooling, spare parts, and replenishment processes.
  • Complete tool condition report for key tools at specified intervals
  • Work with operations, quality, and engineering to resolve current production challenges and assist the team in troubleshooting efforts
  • Understand all phases of mold development 
  • Interface directly with internal and external tooling vendors
  • Respond decisively to tooling issues, whether internally or externally identified, and implement appropriate and effective countermeasures
  • Support a dynamic and cross-functional sales, engineering, and manufacturing team
  • Research, analyze, recommend, and implement new technology relating to plastic injection molding 

Experience

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications for this position:

  • 5 years plus experience in plastic mold injection design or injection molding fabrication, as well as previous Tooling Engineer Experience in a manufacturing facility (preferably – plastic injection molding facility)
  • Bachelor of Engineering or extensive related work experience- is a requirement, or the completion of an Apprenticeship in the field of plastic injection mold-making is a requirement
  • Experienced with 3D modeling, preferably using Solid Works or equivalent, is required
  • Experience with plastics is required; whether through design and or through manufacturing as a toolmaker is required, multi–shot–in–mold assembly and or elastomer molding experience is a plus
  • Proven project-driven results, focused on process improvement resulting in improved quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Experience with plastics molding processing is a plus
  • Firsthand experience working on a production floor with process engineers in troubleshooting and qualifying tooling is a plus
  • Demonstrate and promote sound decision-making skills while identifying and resolving potential part design as well as tooling issues 
  • Must be goal-oriented and possess excellent planning and project management skills
  • Forward-leaning toward deadlines, polite, persistent follow-up vs waiting on others
